Reliable Plating Corp. provides microporous chrome plating (chromium plating) for superior corrosion protection. Microporous chrome plating is a durable, non-tarnishing, conductive, hard, and offers decorative or functional finishes.
Decorative microporous chrome plating is applied over triplex Nickel and the surface preparation can provide an appearance range from dull to satin to bright. Combinations of Chrome and Nickel will provide significant corrosion resistance. While other chrome finishes typically only use two layers of nickel for corrosion resistance (duplex nickel), microporous chrome utilizes three layers of nickel (triplex nickel). This third layer is refered to as microporous. This chemistry deposits a layer of nickel with millions of tiny inert particles embedded in it. Upon application of the final Chrome Layer, these particles create tiny voids, or micro pores, in the Chrome layer. The effect of this is to disperse the corrosion mechanism across the surface thus weakening it and making it less visible to the eye. Done correctly, it also enhances the electro-chemical protection of the system.
